Captains Leadership Camp

Be a Leader!

This Skills camp will teach what it is to be a leader both on and off the ice. There will be an emphasis on leadership skills and what it takes to be a Captain and good teammate. Bench, dressing room and on ice skills will be learned. Players will help to lead groups and take over and instruct portions of the on-ice and off-ice drills. Experience will be given to players on how to handle adversity and tough times.

The camps will be targeted to players in Atom, Peewee and Bantam. Players will be grouped and partnered accordingly both on and off the ice.

Duration

The camp includes 1.5 hours of ice time and 1 hour of off-ice training per day.

Off-Ice Program

The off-ice program will focus on leadership, directions, expectations and fun. Various games and fun activities will be used to accomplish many of the camp goals.

Brett Hull

The problem, Hull said, begins with youth hockey in North America, where the emphasis is on defensive play rather than individual skills and creativity.

"The youth in both the States and Canada are taught to play without style or grace," he told Oake. "How come every Russian, who comes over here, is so skilled, and every Swede, but the North Americans are so inept? Because [Europeans] are taught to play a very skilled game growing up. So why don't we do that? "

I watch my son practice. And at eight years old, they're trying to structure him into systems. Why don't they teach him to skate, shoot and stickhandle? That's the hard part. The rest is easy."
